02Guide
What is an eSIM and how does it work?
An eSIM is a rewritable SIM chip built into your phone. Instead of inserting a plastic card, the carrier profile is downloaded over the internet via a QR code or an app.
With a travel eSIM your main line stays on; abroad you simply switch mobile data to Kiazo. You connect at local-carrier speed without expensive roaming fees.
A phone can store several eSIM profiles. Plans for different countries sit side by side and you choose which one to use in settings.
Comparison: eSIM, local SIM and roaming
| Kiazo eSIM | Local physical SIM | Carrier roaming | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Setup | At home, 3 minutes | Shop or kiosk on arrival | Automatic |
| Cost | Transparent, per plan | Cheap but a hassle | Often the most expensive |
| Your number | Stays on | Off when you swap SIM | Stays on |
| Several countries | One regional plan | New SIM per country | Daily fees add up |
| Top-ups | In seconds in the app | Shop or voucher | Depends on carrier |

04Frequently asked questions
Does my phone support eSIM?
Most iPhone XS/XR and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, and Google Pixel 3 and later support eSIM. Use our device check or dial *#06# and look for an EID number.
When should I install my eSIM?
Before you leave, while on Wi-Fi. Validity doesn’t start at installation — it starts on first connection at your destination.
Will my phone number change?
No. Kiazo eSIM is data-only; your main line stays active, so WhatsApp and bank SMS keep working.
What happens when my data runs out?
Top up the same eSIM from the app or website. No reinstall needed.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. The full price of an unactivated plan is refunded to your Kiazo balance. If delivery fails, your payment goes back to your balance automatically; refunds are not made to the card.
